The installation will include the following files:
- AOLicMgr.exe. This is the Licence Manager and is used to enter the activation key and other information.
- AOLicMgrSvc.exe. This is the Licence Manager Service. The use of this file is not manual; it is controlled by the Licence Manager - the service can be installed, uninstalled, started and stopped using the Licence Manager.
- AutoOffice.exe. This is the AutoOffice client. The Licence Manager or Licence Manager Service must be running before this is usable.
- AO_COMM. This is the CALLable PRO5 program.
- AutoOffice Manual.pdf. This contains all AutoOffice documentation.
Note that the folder that contains AutoOffice.exe must have write permissions for all users that will use AutoOffice. This is necessary as AutoOffice will automatically create a sub-folder named Configs and will write a configuration file for each user to that folder.
Installation Method
Simply unzip the files to the folder of your choice. Normally you would place all three executables in the same folder, but you can put the Licence Manager and the Licence Manager Service in a separate folder if you particularly want to. The PRO5 CALLable program (AO_COMM) must then be moved to a location accessible from your PRO5 environment.
After Installing The Files
There are a few steps needed to get the Licence Manager up and running. Note that you will need Administrator privileges for this.
- Run the Licence Manager and note the Host Id. Then send an email to ao@paysyscomputing.com.au requesting an Activation Key and include the Host Id.
- After receiving the Serial Number and Activation Key, copy them to the relevant boxes in the Licence Manager. Click the Activate button.
- Normally you should not have to change the Listening Port number unless it conflicts with another program.
- If you want to run the Licence Manager Service then enter the Location or browse for the .exe Location. This is not strictly necessary unless the service executable is in a different location to the Licence Manager. If you are planning on using the Log Service Activity option then you must enter the location.
- To install the service, click the Install Service button.
- After installing the service, wait a few seconds and then click the Start Service button to start it running.
When the AutoOffice client is first run you need to set the following options:
- The Docs folder. This is the default folder where most of your documents reside.
- The Temp folder. By default this is the folder specified by the TEMP environment variable. Experience has shown that this sometimes gets deleted by Windows, so it would be better to specify another static folder such as C:\Temp\
- The Licence Manager. This is either the IP address or machine name where the Licence Manager is running.
- The Licence Port must be the same as the Listening Port in the Licence Manager.
- The Listening Port in the client is the port used for communication between AO_COMM and AutoOffice.
- Click the Connect button to establish the connection between AutoOffice and the Licence Manager.
Firewall Note
If you use the Windows XP firewall (or another third party firewall), these will block the network traffic to and from AutoOffice. So make sure that AutoOffice is listed as an exception in the firewall settings.
Preparing to use AO_COMM
- The PRO5 config.bbx must have an alias for the TCP socket used to communicate with the AutoOffice client. By default this is N0, but can be changed by setting either a global variable or environment variable named AO_SOCKET to the required alias.
- The host name of the PC must be available to the PRO5 environment. This is done in one of the following ways:
- Setting either a global variable or environment variable named AO_HOST to the required name
- On a Unix/Linux system this may be extracted by using the 'who' command. The name returned by this command may need to be entered in the /etc/hosts file along with it's corresponding IP address.
- On a Windows PC the last four bytes of INFO(3,1) are used if not zero. See SETOPTS byte 4 $20$ to make this available.
- FacetWin Note: FacetWin has the ability to set the environment in such a way that the name returned by the 'who' command may not be valid as a host name. In this case it will be necessary to set the AO_HOST environment variable to the contents of the FACETWINIPADDR environment variable, which will have the correct IP address.
- The port number for communication is 12000. If a different number is needed then set either a global variable or environment variable named AO_PORT to the required number. If any users are running on a terminal server then each user on the terminal server must have a unique port number.
